This piece is dedicated to my grandfather, who my dad always called "the Big Cheese." Some of my strongest memories of him are in the kitchen, where we'd sit together and make fishing lures, each designed with different colors for different depths and types of fish. Fishing was one of his biggest passions, and he would go out any chance.
As a family, we took trips to Chama, New Mexico, near Heron Lake. While we stayed in a cabin, my grandparents would park their RV by the lake. I remember spending whole days on the water and onshore, finding cool rocks I could throw into the water. Though these memories have faded a bit, making lures with him still stands out. It was a simple but memorable time.
This piece reflects those moments where it wasn't just about fishing but about being together and learning from him. It's a reminder of the bond we shared and the lessons I carry with me.
